An afternoon of music, historical photographs and readings from Dr. Thomas Wolf’s new book The Nightingale’s Sonata. This richly woven tapestry centers around his grandmother, the legendary violinist Lea Luboshutz, and her remarkable musical family. Spanning generations, from the shores of the Black Sea to the glittering concert halls of New York, it is also the story of César Franck’s magnificent violin sonata, which will be performed during the event.

This year’s Henrietta Dilyock Lecture is “The Nightingale’s Sonata,” the remarkable story of Lea Luboshutz and her family told in a concert-lecture format on October 22, 2019 at 7 pm at the Druker Auditorium, Newton Free Library. It includes a live performance of Franck’s sonata for violin and piano, a work Lea and her family championed. Book sales and signing will follow the lecture.

The Curtis Institute of Music presents The Nightingale’s Sonata, a dramatic tale of love, intrigue, and great music told in music, words, and photographs based on the compelling new book, The Nightingale’s Sonata. It is the story of legendary Curtis violin faculty member, Lea Luboshutz, and her musical family presented by, her grandson and biographer, Thomas Wolf.  Wolf will take us from the shores of the Black Sea to the great concert halls of Europe and America and recount tales of the early days of Curtis. The performance takes place 8:00pm, Saturday, October 19, 2019
8:00pm at the Field Concert Hall.
